Do It Yourself! Reversible Fringe

Do It Your Self Fringe Attaching fringe on a rug can be done several ways. First there must be an area about 1/2 inch wide from the edge of the rug to receive the approximately 1/2 inch wide band on the fringe. The 1/2 inch area on the rug need not be perfectly flat, can be somewhat rough, however, needs to be clean. Void of dampness or oil.

Methods:

  1. Sewing it on by machine or stitching it on by hand, not a pleasant thought.
  2. Tape. A good possibility.
  3. Gorilla glue. Speaks for itself.
  4. Glue sticks. Another good possibility.

Tape: www.findtape.com to access many manufacturers. Contacted Scapa: for textile yarn, cloth, recommended Item: Scapa S301 Double Coated Clear

UPVC Tape (Aggressive) Size: 1/2 inch x 60 Yds. (less than $10)

Using a piece of scrap rug about 2 feet long, laid on a table fastened down on each end, to prevent it from moving, pealed the first protective layer on the roll and applied it to the secured rug, cut tape and remove role. With the fastened down rug, removed the second protective film on one end and carefully align and firmly press on the fringe which is now a part of the rug. Results: The next day, holding the rug firmly and pulling the fringe laterally away from the rug was fairly difficult but doable. Pulling the fringe strait up while holding the the rug down was a bit easier.

4. Glue sticks: Maybe the likely solution. Glue sticks are inexpensive, available everywhere, Glue guns as well. However, glue sticks and slugs have different melting temperatures. Obviously, higher the temperature deeper the penetration to a point where removing the fringe may no longer be an option.

A word of caution. Only after you have acquainted yourself and others with your process( another pair of hands is always good) and made several trials, when you feel confident, "GO FOR IT" Add "value to your beautiful rug."

"GOOD LUCK" with your project!
